#1 CuisinartTM SM-50 5.5-Quart Stand Mixer
The Cuisinart Precision Master mixer stand mixer is a great option for all-around value at a fair price. It can handle two loaves each of heavy, wet bread dough. The motor also makes it easy to whip up egg whites and blend cookie dough.
Cuisinart made two loaves of bread in our bread test. It kneaded them in 10 minutes. It did a great job with cookie dough. It incorporated all ingredients quickly and well. We added chocolate chips and they blended in nicely. It passed our test of whipping egg whites. There are 12 power settings available, and the highest setting gives you serious energy to aerate things like whipping cream or egg whites.
This stand mixer has some great extras. The “low” setting is really low, which prevents flour from getting too wet when adding dry ingredients. The 5.5-quart stainlesssteel bowl is the largest of all the mixers that we reviewed. The handle makes it easy for you to remove batter or dough from its base.
You get a whisk, dough hook, and paddle. You can also buy a frozen dessert maker and meat grinder, a pasta rolling and cutter tool, and an extruder. You have six choices, which is a great deal compared to mixers that only have one color, but far less than the KitchenAid Artisan.
#2 KitchenAid KSM150PSER Artisan
KitchenAid has a long tradition in appliance-making. It is well-known for its quality workmanship and functionality, without sacrificing aesthetics. We were not surprised to see this one win.
One of the things that struck us about the KitchenAid KSM150PSERis that it comes in an astounding 45 different colors! This stand mixer is unrivaled. No matter what your kitchen color scheme is, you’ll be able to match it with one of these.
But the KitchenAid KSM150PSER goes beyond being a pretty face. It does the job efficiently.
Plus, it’s extremely versatile. It can mix, but it can also shape pasta, grind meat, and make ice cream with 12 attachments.
#3 KitchenAid KSM75WH Classic Plus Series
The KitchenAid Classic Plus mixer does not have many features, extra bowls, or a powerful motor. It performed well in all our kitchen tests. It whipped up stiff egg whites, blended chocolate chips into cookie dough without breaking them, and kneaded bread dough until it reached the right consistency.
This model is less expensive than its more costly cousin, the KitchenAid Artisan. It does not include a splashguard or bowl with a handle. The KitchenAid Classic is still a useful tool that comes with a sturdy 4.5-quart stainless metal bowl, a paddle mixer and a whisk attachment. If you choose, you can buy extra attachments from KitchenAid – they let you do far more with your mixer, including grind meat, make pasta and shred cheese.
#4 Hamilton Beach 64650
Hamilton Beach is another well-respected manufacturer of kitchen appliances. As stand mixers go, the Hamilton Beach 64650 isn’t the fanciest on the market, but that is what makes it the perfect starter stand mixer.
It’s ideal for those who are just starting to furnish a kitchen, those who cook for small crowds (like a family of four, give or take one) and those who cook or bake a lot but long to escape the tedium of the hand mixer without spending a fortune.
If you’re in the market for your first stand mixer, the Hamilton Beach 64650 is a quality choice. It’s inexpensive and gets your basic cooking and baking tasks done.
It has some drawbacks, but they’re easy to work around. Just use the “shift and stir” feature to reach all sides of bowl, for example.
You will get a better idea of what you want from a stand mixer if you use it for a while. You’ll be more experienced if and when it’s time to upgrade. You’ll know what you want and don’t want in an upgraded model.
#5 CuisinartSM55BK
We weren’t surprised to see another Cuisinart model make our “what’s the best stand mixer” top five list. Cuisinart is another trusted, reliable, and enduring brand of kitchen appliances.
We chose the 5-1/2-Quart 12-Speed stand mixer as a top-quality choice in the mid-price category of stand mixers. It is a versatile mixer that can be used by even the most seasoned cooks.
It might be a little expensive, but we believe it is worth the value. The Cuisinart SM-55BK warranty is unique in its class. You can rest assured that you’ll be able to use this mixer for years to come.
We love. We love the versatility of this model. It can prepare and process a wide range of ingredients. You can also use its super-fast capabilities to get through even the thickest and most stretchiest bread doughs.
Cuisinart SM55BK is a great investment for anyone who loves to cook, bake, and/or does a lot of cooking from scratch.
